Pi Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was chartered September 21, 1985 by South Atlantic Regional Director, Mary Shy Scott, who led the group in a most inspiring rededication and commitment to our sorority.
Following the chartering, proclamations from the Mayor of Atlanta and the Governor of Georgia were presented to the chapter. An original poem "AKA Sisterhood" was presented as well as songs and a toast expressing the chapter's commitment. Mary Shy Scott presented a workshop, after which the first meeting was held. During this time officers were elected and installed. Soror Ora Bohannon became Pi Alpha Omega's first Basileus
On the evening of the chartering, a most elegant celebration was enjoyed by friends, guests, sorors, and spouses. A presentation and proclamation from the City Council of Atlanta was read by its president, Marvin Arrington.
Pi Alpha Omega has remained a positive presence in Atlanta through diverse community service activities. Her programming reflects the Alpha Kappa Alpha International Program goals and needs of the Atlanta community.
